Frequently Asked Questions
What is
the Alamo Disc Series?
The 2010 Alamo Disc
Series is a series of disc golf tournaments held in the San Antonio metro area culminating in a series
finale in December 2010. Players in
each of the tournaments earn points.
After the series finale, players with the highest point totals earn
extra bonus payouts.
How are
the points totaled?
Points are awarded for playing in events, beating other competitors,
finishing in the top 10, leading a round, & scoring aces. Click here for
more details.
How
does the Series Bonus Payout work?
- $2 from each player at each qualifying event
goes towards the series bonus payout at the series finale.
- The series bonus payout will be distributed
by division & allocated by the percentage of entrants in the
qualifying tournaments. That means if a player enters the intermediate
division in a qualifier, that $2 goes towards to intermediate division’s
series bonus payout at the series finale. If a player enters the open
division in a qualifier, that $2 goes towards the open division’s series
bonus payout at the series finale.
- Players who have played in at least (3)
qualifying events receive a $5 discount for the series finale entry fee.
- The top 25% of each division using the Alamo
Disc Series Point System will receive payout from the series bonus
payout.
Why are
some events PDGA sanctioned while others are non-sanctioned?
We wanted to devise a way
to help keep more money from player entry fees here in San Antonio and with the players. Less fees means higher payouts. To achieve this goal we decided to only
sanction 2 of the 6 events being run by the San Antonio Disc Club. The $2 that would go to the PDGA in a
sanctioned event will instead be going to the series bonus payout in the
non-sanctioned events.
We support the PDGA, and
feel they are doing a tremendous job of growing the sport at the national
level. With the 2 sanctioned events
SADC is running along with the 2 other regularly scheduled sanctioned events
run by 3rd Coast & Live Oak Disc Golf Alliance in the area, we
felt San Antonio
was doing its part to support the PDGA.
The decision to not sanction every event isn’t in any way a reflection
of our appreciation and respect for the PDGA.
Rather, it is more about how SADC can best run a series that benefits
all of us who enjoy disc golf in the San
Antonio area.
What
can we expect regarding the quality of non-sanctioned events?
The sanctioning status
of the tournament will in no way impact the quality of the event. All PDGA rules apply during tournament play
regardless of the sanctioning status. All
tournaments will have raffles, CTPs, ring of fire games, an ample supply of
plastic and all of the professionalism you’ve come to expect from a SADC run
event. Event stats will also be
available on the series website.
